Visit renown Harlem and witness its ongoing renaissance with our Harlem Gospel Tour. Enjoy a guided bus tour through Harlem's charming tree-lined streets and historical districts before attending an uplifting worship service in a local church, where you will experience the soul-stirring power of live gospel music.
Harlem on A Sunday is an experience not to be missed!
Learn about the neighborhood’s origins as a rural Dutch community to its transformation into a summer retreat for New York's most prominent families. Explore the significance of the Harlem Renaissance, a social, intellectual and cultural revolution that cemented Harlem's status as the epicenter of Black culture. During this golden age, African-Americans leaving the South for better opportunities flourished as a community. Hear about Harlem's troubled past during the 1960's and 1970's and experience its present-day community beam with pride as it revels in Harlem’s new Renaissance.
Explore famous sights and landmarks such as Columbia University, City College, Morningside Heights, the Morris Jumel Mansion, Sylvan Terrace, Strivers Row, the Cotton Club, the Apollo Theater, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Sugar Hill, Duke Ellington's apartment and statue, the famous 125th street and many more.
Join a local congregation during their Sunday worship service and experience the soul-stirring power of gospel music.
*We spend about 1 hour at the church for the beginning of the service often referred to as song and praise. We exit before the sermon so as not to disrupt the congregation. Choirs are comprised of church members that volunteer their time. Every Sunday has a different meaning and choirs vary accordingly. These are authentic religious ceremonies services not performances for entertainment.
*We attend local church services in Harlem or in the Bronx. For the past 30 years, Harlem Spirituals has developed relationships and followed with many congregations and choirs. For this reason, church services may also take place in the Bronx. This in no way affects the content or timing of our tour.
If you are not available on Sunday, come and join us on our Harlem Gospel tour on Wednesday!
It was our first time in NYC and we have seen and done a lot. When people ask me what was most memorable, I say the gospeltour in Harlem and the Bronx. Fantastic to see how people practice religion. What an experience. Very sorry dat we don’t have photos and film.
A recommander.
Anthony was our guide for the day and despite being a large group, he was professional, passionate and had such in depth insights into his hood. He gave a never ending narrative about NYC, Harlem, the Bronx that flowed naturally and was full of meaty snippets of life in these areas. The Gospel at the Theselonia Baptist Church for All People was welcoming, spirited and uplifting - lasted about an hour. The singing and preaching was highly engaging. An experience to relish and remember. Thank yu Anthony once more. Kris & Kathy
Nice Tour...from a 5 days nyc trip this sunday morning remains in da brains, bro!!
The tour was fantastic, it was a great experience and we learned so much about the other districts of NYC. Thumbs up to our guide Anthony, he's truly amazing!
We're New Yorkers who’d never seen much of Harlem. Saw great sights with Anthony, a truly wonderful guide with deep knowledge and the greatest enthusiasm for his City! The church and the gospel music were marvelous; the parishioners welcomed us and, by the end, we were on our feet, clapping and dancing. Loved it!
Some nine years ago we walked in Harlem on our own, so we looked forward to this tour. Thanks to the well-informed guide we learned much more about this part of Manhattan. Unfortunately the audio-system in the bus was of poor quality. And we had to leave the gospelservice before it ended, which felt kid of rude.
People at the church were very friendly and kind. All of them. But our guide didn´t tell us anything about the origen and actual information about the baptist church or the gospel music. Not even what one can find at wikipedia. A pitty
Thank you for our tour with you to Harlem. We enjoyed it a lot. If I may I have two suggestions to make it even better. Inform your guest they are expected to bring cash for Church and for tips, europeans are not used to tiping or bringing cash. The tour was a bit to long. 2,5 hours woud have been perfect.
C’est pas encore fait on y va début août !!!
Very Good tour with a very knowledgeable guide. It is worth the money
Merci
It was a very interesting tour, but we didn't like the visited church very much. When we did the same tour in 2016 we visited another church; This one was much better!
