The New York Botanical Garden is a National Historic Landmark. With over 250 acres of landscape, it supports over one million living plants in settings of remarquable diversity, ranging from tropical, to desert, as well as temperate.
The garden was established in 1891, and operates one of the largest plant research and conservation program.
The garden highlights include a 1890 "crystal-palace style" greenhouse, the largest existing remnant of the original forest which covered all of New York City before the arrival of European settlers in the 17th century, and a stretch of river including a riverine canyon and rapids.
